Glass that protects without blocking the view

A glass balustrade keeps a balcony or stair safe while letting the light and the view straight through. Around a pool, it does the same without the chain-link look.

We make and install it in 12mm toughened glass, set out to the standards, with hardware that stands up to the Perth weather.

Framed, semi-frameless and frameless

All do the safety job. The difference is how much hardware you see, and how much of the view you keep.

Framed01

Framed

Glass held in a top and bottom rail with posts. The most economical, and forgiving on uneven ground.

Semi-frameless02

Semi-frameless

Slim stainless posts with no top rail, so it reads cleaner while staying cost-effective.

Frameless03

Frameless

No posts, no rails, just thick glass on minimal spigots. The premium, uninterrupted-view option.

Frameless is the showstopper, but semi-frameless gives most of the look for less. We will show you both on the quote.

The qualified difference

Glazing is not a licensed trade in WA, so anyone can have a crack at it, and plenty turn up with no ticket at all. We turn up with the lot, 15 years on the tools and every job glazed to Australian Standard AS 1288.

Pool fencing that meets AS 1926

AS 1926

Compliant fencing

Pool fencing is not just a style choice, it is the law. Glass pool fencing has to meet AS 1926, which covers gap sizes, heights, gates and the climb zone.

Why glass for the pool

  • Clear sightline to the pool
  • No footholds for climbing
  • 12mm toughened, heat-soaked
  • Marine-grade hardware

You keep an eye on the kids in the pool from the house, with nothing in the way.

Compliance is not optional

Pool fences are inspected, and a non-compliant fence can fail and hold up a sale or a certificate. We set out gaps, heights, hinges and latches to AS 1926, so it passes.

Custom-made vs cheap imported kits

There is a real difference between a balustrade made to your job and a flat-pack kit. It usually shows up a year or two in.

Custom-made

  • Glass and hardware made to your job
  • Quality marine-grade fittings
  • Set out to the standards
  • Holds up in Perth's salt air

Cheap imported kits

  • Generic sizes that don't quite fit
  • Hardware that pits and rusts
  • Often skirts the standards
  • Looks tired within a couple of years

Glass near the coast lives in salt air, so the hardware is exactly where the cheap option lets you down.

Built to the standard, built to last

A balustrade is a safety barrier, so the glass grade and the install have to be right. Here is what goes into it.

12mm toughened glass

Thick toughened glass rated for a barrier, so it takes a knock and breaks safe if it ever does.

Heat-soaked

Heat-soaking screens out the rare nickel-sulphide flaw that can cause toughened glass to spontaneously fail, important for overhead and barrier glass.

Marine-grade hardware

Spigots, clamps and fittings that stand up to Perth's salt air without pitting.

Set out to standard

Heights, gaps and the climb zone set to AS 1170 for barriers and AS 1926 for pools.

Solid fixing

Fixed into sound structure so the barrier is rigid and safe, not just bolted to the surface.

We measure, quote up front, and build it to pass inspection and last.

Measured right. Cut right. Glazed right.

Step 01

Measured right

On-site laser measure to a 2-3mm tolerance, and the right glass picked for the job and the standard, not guesswork.

Step 02

Cut right

Float, toughened or laminated, cut to size with polished edges. We carry stock sheets so most repairs are done on the spot.

Step 03

Glazed right

Installed clean, sealed properly and made safe. Glazed to AS 1288, signed off and tidied up before we leave.

Questions about balustrades & pool fencing

Perth homeowner asking a qualified glazier questions about a glass repair quote
Does my glass pool fence have to meet a standard?

Yes. Glass pool fencing must meet AS 1926, which sets the gaps, heights, the non-climb zone, and the gate and latch rules. We set it out to comply, because a non-compliant fence can fail inspection and hold up a sale.

What is heat-soaked glass and why does it matter?

Heat-soaking is an extra process that screens out a rare flaw (nickel sulphide) that can make toughened glass fail on its own. For barrier and overhead glass it is worth doing, and we use heat-soaked glass on balustrades.

What's the difference between framed, semi-frameless and frameless?

Framed glass sits in a top and bottom rail with posts, the most economical. Semi-frameless drops the top rail for a cleaner look. Frameless has no posts or rails at all, just thick glass on spigots, for an uninterrupted view.

How thick is balustrade glass?

Barrier glass is typically 12mm toughened, and heat-soaked for balustrades and pool fencing. The exact spec depends on the application and the span, which we work out on the measure.

Is frameless worth the extra over semi-frameless?

If the view is the whole point, yes. But semi-frameless gives you most of the look for less, so we will quote both and let you decide. Either way the glass and hardware are quality.

Will the hardware rust near the coast?

Not the hardware we use. Cheap imported kits pit and rust in Perth's salt air fast. We fit marine-grade spigots and fittings made to handle coastal conditions.
